Eating “Healthy” But Still Craving Sugar? Here’s Why
At CrossFit Murrayfield we often meet people in Edinburgh who are training hard, choosing “healthy” foods, and still struggling with:
* Sugar cravings
* Bloating
* Low energy
* Stubborn fat loss
A common example?
A “high protein” breakfast made up of a protein yogurt and protein bar.
It sounds healthy…
But when we break it down, it can contain:
* ~390 calories
* 34g protein
* 40g carbs
* 30g+ sugar
That’s often enough to create a blood sugar spike, energy crash, and cravings later in the day.
A Better Breakfast for Energy, Fat Loss and Performance
At our CrossFit gym in Edinburgh, we often encourage members to swap processed convenience foods for simple whole foods like:
- Eggs on toast with avocado
For similar calories, you get:
1) Better satiety
2) More stable energy
3) Less sugar
4) Better digestion
5) Fewer cravings
Real food tends to outperform packaged “fitness foods.”
Are High-Protein Processed Foods Actually Healthy?
This is something we cover often in our nutrition coaching in Edinburgh.
Just because something says high protein doesn’t mean it supports health or fat loss.
Many protein bars, yogurts and snacks are still highly processed.
Our rule is simple:
- If you can drink it or unwrap it, it probably shouldn’t be your main meal.
Use those foods as backup.
Build your nutrition around real food.
